Graphic Tees by the hundreds

Need to stock up your closet with some new tees this semester? Novel T World is offering an exclusive 10% discount to HPU students.

This year Novel T World celebrates 30 years of business providing customers with a selection like no other store on the island. Novel T World opened back in 1983.

No need for décor here, tees decorate the store from floor to ceiling. Novel T World offers Hawaii’s largest t-shirt selection. The cozy space is conveniently located in Ward Warehouse with plenty of free parking.

In addition to their wall art, the store offers the option to customize your design by size, color, style, and placement on a t-shirt to make it your own.

Do you have your own design you’d like to see on a Tee? Novel T World also does custom jobs.

The store also carries unique jewelry, toys, decals, patches, and other unique odds and ends.

Novel T World supports local brands, such as Local Motion, Ainokea, Tribal Edge, Island Inked, All-In, Cane Haul Road, Hawaiian Style, among others.

Owners Stephanie and Darrell Ching pride themselves for their customer service.

“We believe customer service is the most important part of a business. We tell our employees we don’t pay you ,the customers’ do! We will try to find or make the tees our customers are looking for. We keep a customer book and will call when we have what they need.”

The store fulfills customer requests for specific designs and is always on the hunt for the newest prints.

HPU Alumna Lei Navasca visited the store after her discovery of the store on Facebook.

“The fan page intrigued me to come in and check out the store. I especially liked an Avenger t-shirt. Although it wasn’t available, I gave my number and shortly after I heard back from them saying it was available!” she said.

Retired Sumo Wrestler, Musashimaru even requested a tribal design from Manoatoa in 6XL and Novel T World was able to request the company make a special one for him.

Reflecting on the stores past, the Chings agreed that the stores biggest highlight was in 1999 when UH went from last place to first, with an undefeated record with new coach June Jones. At the time the store was the first to have the official WAC Championship tee and football fanatics went crazy.

“We had UH football team fans waiting in line out the door and we sold tees straight out of the box!” said Stephanie Ching.

Owners say that the two most popular designs right now are Big Bang Theory, with printed shirts with “Bazinga!” and Minecraft, a popular app and video game.

The staff packages tees that are meant as a gift into a chop suey box which acts as a gift receipt if the recipient would like to exchange the shirt.

You can find the Chings working almost every day alongside their workers, their daughter Nicole Ching, cousin Tracey Urakami, and Michael Donato.

“From day one, working here it’s been a overwhelming positive experience.  I’m the kind of person that needs people, and a desk type of job is not for me. My time here has allowed me to create some T-shirt designs you see on the walls,” said UH Theatre Major Donato, who goes by “Donut.”

Their daughter Nicole grew up in the business and may one day take over Novel T World from her parents.

Until then, they will continue to carry the latest trends and help you find what you’re looking for with a smile.
