    By Keisha Lewis. October 8, 2013 - 3:36 pm

Sahen_Agunia-Uruchurtu

Sahen Aguina – Uruchurtu   Student Body Vice-President

Where are you from?

San Diego, California.

Is this your first year running for an SGA position?

Yes, it is. I interned this entire summer working with Miina who appointed me and then I ran for the position this year.

Why did you run for this position?

Honestly, I was asked. I never thought I would take this position, I already own a business and I am quite busy. But Miina approached me and told me my good qualities and why she felt I would be good for it. She also pointed out some things and skills that I could do to assist the students as well. After thinking about it, I realized it was a position I wanted not only for myself to prove that I could do this but also with my personality and my skills I know that I could help the students as well. This is a position for me to grow but to also help the students to grow as well.

What ideas do you have to help further improve the SGA?

HPU is improving a lot of things and a lot of things, although they are great ideas, they benefit a lot of the future. And, I wish to see the future grow, strong, but I’d also like to see things happen now. It’s nice o hear good ideas but we are involved now and some of the ideas they have are taking a little longer and I’d like to push sooner for student spaces or activities—the opportunities are immense. I also want to help out with better communication between students and faculty.

What inspires you—politically or otherwise?

Similar to what they were saying at the induction ceremony is leadership, I feel that I’ve always been the person that’s always with friends and jumping off the rails and what not but I figured that I’m a people person and what inspires me is seeing other people succeed. Seeing people do more than what they can drives me.

Do you have any goals for this year?

To help the students, help the people around me and to also grow and acquire more leadership skills. Do well in SGA and do well in business.

Describe yourself in one word.

Realistic.

What ideas do you have to help further improve the SGA?

Definitely, I have a few events I want to do. I have some events I want to do to help raise money for foundations such as ‘Make A Wish Foundation.’ Also, its hard for students to get to events, we want to have fans at our sports games.
