Everybody wants to stay healthy, but most of the time it costs a lot of money, especially those organic, healthy green places.
However, I think if you are still looking for a store for healthy food, I think I have an answer for all of you.
Located at 1001 Bishop St., Extract is the perfect place to get green, healthy food for an affordable price. All the fresh fruit and vegetable juices are only $7.
The establishment features drinks, smoothies and pita pizza, and so much more. Drinks and foods are made right before your eyes.
I ordered a juice called the Power House and one of their pita pizzas, the Humdinger.
The juice wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. It had broccoli, strawberry, spinach, blueberry and apple. Despite the greens in the drink, the fruit flavors remain prominent.
The Humdinger pita pizza features hummus, spinach, sliced pear, walnuts and lemon oil. It has an interesting taste, and the lemon oil added a nice touch that makes the pizza taste sweeter.
HPU student, Kara Jernigan ordered the Weed Whacker with extra ginger and apple. It came out bright green because of all the kale, spinach, cabbage, celery and cucumber.
“You can’t go wrong with Kale, apple, and ginger,” she said. “I was skeptical at first. Usually I don’t like celery, but it was a refreshing flavor I didn’t expect.”
I try very hard to take care of my body. This meal was not only healthy — it tasted delicious.
If you aren’t sure exactly what you want, the employees will help you decide based on your taste preferences.
Whatever your preference is, Extract has something for you.
Let them know if it’s your first time there, the manager David (pictured right) will give you a card for one free pineapple ginger shot.
“It boosts your immune system and gets you going in the mornings,” he said.
