The play “The Importance of being Earnest” was originally produced in London on February 14, 1895 by Oscar Wilde.

Joyce Maltby’s production was performed by students, staff and local residents at the HPU Paul and Vi Loo Theatre on the windward campus.

In the small theatre on the night of April 29, 2012 in a full house the audience was captivated by the humor and twist of having the role of Lady Bracknell played by a male actor Mitchell Milan. From the moment the lights dimmed and the play began the actors and actresses were sent back in time. The music began and the characters set up the stage in a fashion that captivated the audience with music and poise.

The characters were cast very well. The director seemed to focus on bringing out the humorous personalities of the characters and letting the audience enjoy that.

All through the two acts the play hit all the right notes and delivered laughs. It was an all around success.
