The Public Relations Student America of Society (PRSSA) won three awards at HPU’s sixth annual Light Up the Night reception.
The Light Up the Night awards recognize outstanding student leaders and registered student organizations. This year’s event was held on Friday, April 25 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
In previous years the awards reception was held at the Hawaii Loa campus, but this year the venue was changed to Café Julia.
This year PRSSA had a board of newly elected officers. Angela Thai went from being a PRSSA member to president of the club. Thai was awarded RSO President of the Year.
“I was so surprised and honored to be recognized at the awards tonight,” she said. “I never would have imaged this.”
Former secretary Mariah Orta takes on the role of vice president and was awarded RSO Member of the Year for PRSSA. Orta’s nominator Leilani Lee said she is a social butterfly.
“Through her networking skills she ensured that PRSSA was constantly active in events and tours,” Lee said.
During the Spring 2014 semester, PRSSA organized a portfolio development session, guest speaking events and various tours including Wall-to-Wall Studios, Outrigger Reef Hotel, and Clear Channel Communications.
PRSSA was also one of the recipients for Best RSO Event. This years Best RSO Event was the Sea Warrior Challenge. PR director Jim Orteza created the T-shirt design for the Sea Warrior Challenge.
Many RSOs collaborated to create this event including the Health Promotion and Wellness Association, Pre-Health Club, Student Nurses Association, Public Relations Student Society of America, and Law and Justice Administration Club.
“PRSSA is always looking for new members,” Thai added. “Those who are interested in learning about the public relations field and networking with professionals are perfect candidates.”
