Once again students, professors, families and friends gathered at Neal Blaisdell Center to see the 82nd Commencement Ceremony for Hawaii Pacific University’s graduating students.
The audience was treated to a beautiful ceremony with the recent Merrie Monarch Festival award-winning halau Ka La ‘Onohi Mai O Ha‘eha‘e and its kumu hula HPU Instructor of Hawaiian Language Tracie Lopes, sharing a hula and a Hawaiian chant. Another distinguished guest at the ceremony was Billy Kenoi, mayor of Hawai’i Island, who shared his words and wisdom in a speech that had the audience laughing, and that will certainly become a YouTube hit if it is published on the social media site.
This spring over 850 students graduate from HPU with Masters, Bachelors and Associate degrees in fields like Nursing, Diplomacy, Communication and Environmental Science. The valedictorian speakers representing the student body were Emily Komarczyk, Camilla Oxhamre-Cruse and Cameron Octavio.
