Hawai’i Pacific Men’s Tennis star Petr Michnev recently pulled off the PacWest double play by being named the 2013-14 Pacific West Conference Male Athlete of the Year, earlier in the month he was named Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The Male Scholar Athlete of the Year is the highest honor that the league can bestow. It recognizes the single best player, regardless of sport, in the 13 team conference.
While leading the Sea Warriors to the national championship match, he was again named an All-American in both singles and doubles, making him a seven-time All-American in his HPU career. Just this season, Michnev has already been named the PacWest Player of the Year (for the second consecutive year), the PacWest Tournament MVP (for the second consecutive year), and the West Region ITA Senior Player of the Year. He finished the season 15-2 in singles and ranked #2 in the nation. With Thibaud Berland, Michnev is ranked #2 in doubles with a 21-2 record.
The award was voted on by the league’s sports information directors. Michnev beat out the PacWest Athletes of the Year from baseball, men’s basketball, men’s cross country, men’s golf, men’s soccer and men’s track and field.
