President Geoffrey Bannister recently announced that the new identity of HPU Athletics will now be “Hawai‘i Pacific University Sharks,” official as of August 1, 2014.
For many years, confusion of the Sea Warrior brand has been noted across the HPU Athletic Department. In an effort to “illustrate strength, purpose and openness toward the possibilities of the future,” says President Bannister, Sharks will “represent this momentum and university-wide progress.”
The new logo and branding design was developed collaboratively by HPU students, coaches, alumni, faculty and members of the community at large. Special attention was given to the cultural significance of sharks and their relation to the islands of Hawai‘i, thanks to the wisdom of HPU’s own Kupuna in Residence, Lynette Cruz, Ph.D.
Currently HPU’S Athletic Department boasts five national championships, 27 conference titles, and has graduated 127 All-American alumni. Check out this promotional video for more information on the new brand identity.
