Men’s Soccer Picks up Five PacWest Awards

After being awarded All-PacWest Second Team last year, Brais Garcia made his way up to the 2014 First Team. The former member of the Spanish U16 national team was ranked second on the PacWest Scorer Board, posting a total of 10 goals in 18 matches. The senior started in all 35 games of his career for HPU and was named Player of the Week twice this season.

Jackson Groves was named to All-PacWest Second Team for his performance this season. Groves, originally from Australia, scored three game winning goals and a total of six goals this year. In addition, the transfer from Oregon State, was also awarded PacWest Defender of the Week once this year. Groves became a key player for HPU and showed offensive and defensive qualities throughout the season.

Defender Daniel Haehre finished his career by receiving back-to-back All-PacWest Third Team honors. The senior from Norway played in 17 games this season and was the backbone of HPU’s solid defense. Not limited to defensive action, Haehre also scored twice this season.

Erik Kemsies received an honorable mention for his good performance. Kemsies truly became HPU’s playmaker and led the PacWest with nine assists in 16 matches. The sophomore from Germany also recorded one goal this season.

Javier Risco Garcia was able to earn an honorable mention in his freshman season for the Sharks. The defender who also played for Atletico Madrid’s and Getafe CF’s youth teams, started in 17 games for HPU and was responsible for several stops on defense.

The Sharks finished the season with an 8-9-1 overall record and a 6-6 record in the PacWest.
