The Hawai’i Pacific University Men’s Golf Team competed in the Oahu Tri-Match at the Turtle Bay Resort over the past two days, playing on the Fazio and Palmer courses. BYU-Hawai’i was the team to host this leg against Chaminade University and our Sharks.
In the first round the Sharks found themselves down but not out, scoring a collective 323 on the day. Although the score put the team in third, they trailed Chaminade by only six strokes. Zach Kwan and Jaime Waltmire stood out on the first day shooting a 77 and 78 respectively.
On day two of the tournament it was Waltmire and Kwan to lead the pack again. Waltmire shot a 76, while Kwan shot a 79. Alec Fourie was also a notable name in the tournament shooting an 80 in both rounds. Freshman Max Fernando had a stellar front nine on the Palmer on day two.
BYU-H not only hosted the tournament but took the victory scoring a 612 over the two rounds. Chaminade took second place with a 647 and HPU rounded out the tournament with a score of 651, just missing a second place finish.
The Sharks next travel to Riverside, CA to compete in the California Baptist University Invitational, on March 23rd and 24th at the Eagle Glen Golf Club.
