A large sprawling crowd along Bishop Street enjoyed the annual Chinese New Year parade this past Saturday. Chinatown was crowded with many locals and visitors enjoying traditional music, food stalls, and entertainment.
Food stalls lined the streets throughout Chinatown and filled the air with scents too hard to resist. Traditional Chinese dishes such as, Peking Duck, Nian Gao and Spring Rolls were easy to seek out. Oranges are believed to bring good fortune for the coming year and were in plentiful supply throughout the busy streets.
Chinese New Year occurred on Thursday, Feb. 19 and marked the beginning of the Chinese year 4713, which is the year of the Sheep/Ram.
