The seventh-ranked Hawai’i Pacific Women’s Tennis Team (18-4) took three of four matches on its Florida trip, capped by a 6-0 win over #26 Concordia College (New York) (13-4). The match featured the second ranked teams in the West and the East Regions.
HPU got off to a hot start by taking all three doubles matches. The 11th ranked team of Kristyna Hancarova and Nicole Hoynaski were overpowering at first doubles as they pasted the nation’s #5 team, 8-2. Lea Kruse-Utermann and Lorena Gheorghe looked just as good winning at second doubles by the same score. The Sharks made it a clean sweep after Vivian Hansen and Sofia Tavitian won 8-6 at third doubles.
Hancarova kept rolling downhill against the #28 singles player in the country; she won the first set 6-0 before her opponent retired. Kruse-Utermann (6-2, 6-2) and fellow countrywoman Hansen (6-0, 6-4) each only allowed four games against.
The Sharks will close the regular season on April 10th as they host #3 BYU-Hawai’i at Ala Moana Park.
